Imagine a journey from Zurich to Amsterdam by train, with an intermezzo in a foreign city, pausing… stretching your legs, gazing around the station and then hopping onto another train to continue the adventure. Since the industrial revolution and the birth of railway transport, cities have developed rapidly around their stations and continue to do so. Today, the arrival of high speed trains, improving multimodality and new technologies, brings us to imagine and create new visions for train stations and their surroundings.

The exhibition invites you to explore a selection of KCAP’s oeuvre that deals with different aspects of mobility as a driving force of urban development. From a station to larger areas, the projects reflect upon the meaning and importance of infrastructure for cities. A comparative research on the relation between train infrastructure and historical city growth by students from the University of Liechtenstein enriches the «Train and the City».



Stellen Sie sich eine Reise mit dem Zug von Zürich nach Amsterdam vor, mit einem Zwischenstopp in einer fremden Stadt. Warten, sich kurz die Beine vertreten im Bahnhof, herumschauen und sich dann in einen nächsten Zug setzen, um das Abenteuer fortzufahren. Seit der industriellen Revolution und der Erfindung der Eisenbahn haben sich die Städte um ihre Bahnhöfe rapide ausgedehnt und tun dies bis heute. Gegenwärtig führt das Aufkommen von Schnellzügen, die Verbesserung der Multimodalität sowie moderne Technologien zu neuen Visionen für Bahnhöfe und deren Umgebung.

Die Ausstellung nimmt Sie mit auf eine Entdeckungsreise einer Auswahl aus KCAPs Oeuvre, welche sich mit der Mobilität als treibende Kraft in der urbanen Entwicklung beschäftigt. Diese Projekte – vom Bahnhof bis zu grösseren Bahnhofsarealen – widerspiegeln die Bedeutung von Infrastruktur für eine Stadt und deren Entwicklung. Eine Vergleichsstudie von Studenten der Universität Liechtenstein über die Beziehung zwischen Bahninfrastrukturen und historischem Wachstum der Städte bereichert «Train and the City».
